[ARC5] What the heck is a "1/2 harmonic Q-5er?

I'm guessing that 913 KHZ is a harmonic of 456.5 KHZ , so there will be a weak response in the BC453 front end which doubles as a signal attenuation not to overload the radio.
Obviously there must be enough signal left to work OK.

Jeep, do you have a pdf copy of that article that you could share? Sound's interesting although the idea of tuning the BC-453 to 1/2 the BC-348's IF minus 50 kHz is a bit mystifying.

Bob,
Yes, the concept was written up in ER magazine by Joe, WA3EJT. I simply loop couple the Q-5er to the last IF of the BC-348 and tune the LF receiver to 1/2 the IF of the BC-348 minus 50 kHz. I adjust the variable IF cans in the LF receiver to about 1/2 down and all works really well. The BC-348 becomes entirely usable in crowded conditions.

Just caught K3HVG's recent email in which he mentions wanting a BC-453 or R-23 for a "...1/2 harmonic Q-5er for BC-348...". I am certainly familiar with using the BC-453 as a tunable IF for other receivers and rather suspect this is a variation of that (the BC-348 has, I believe, a 915 kHz IF). The "1/2-harmonic" thingie does intrigue me!!
Thanks for the bandwidth.
