The late model SP-2H (P-2V-7) had an ARC-38A (SSB version) and an
ARC-94(Collins 618T). We still did some AM on HF ((Miami, San Juan
Radio on 5277 in the l60s. As far as the P-3A, by 1968 we had dual
ARC-94s and an ARR-41 Receiver. One of the HF wire antennas had a gizmo
called a "Loran Coupler" that took one of the HF wires away from the
ARC-94 and sent it to the ARN-70 Loran. This was LORAN C on 100 KHz, I
think the 2 Meg LORAN was gone by then. The earlly Hercs had a pair of
ARC-102s (Collins 618T/ARC-94 that ran on 28 Vdc).
Back in Corpus Christi TX Training Command days in 1966/67 we had
several flavors of the S-2 (TS-2A, S-2F, C-1A)ARC-27 was the UHF and
some had an ARC-84 VHF. The HF radio was an ARC-2. We had to get a radio
check with the squadron duty officer on HF before taxi out. They rarely
worked once clear of the traffic pattern! Try as I may, I could even
get WWV or CHU for a time hack.
73 Tom W4OKW Old P-2 and P-3 driver.
