That sounds like the best guess so far, and completely believable. In the pre VHF - FM days, Coast Guard also watched and operated on frequencies in this band, both USCG stations and rescue vessels. Many, maybe most of the old 2-MHz band radios I have seen here have one channel marked "Coast Guard". I think it was 2670 kHz. -Hue Miller
