The Low-VHF band FM receivers used in the SCR-508/608 were tunable rather than crystral controlled, although the transmitters were crystal controlled.

The BC-1000 was VFO controlled for both the receiver and transmitter.

I understand that the Germans had a portable 100MHZ VHF set used for short range infantry com.
