[ARC5] BC-348R - fair price?

My BC-348R has the “Belmont” marked tag on it. I think a 1942 contract date. The cabinet is grey and the panel is black. Canadian Forces inspection tag on the front with a 1973 date. Another tag dated 1971 gives the markings for 500 and 8364 KC distress frequencies. Makes me think this set was used by Canadian coast guard. Anyway, it was in amongst 8 tons (yes, 8 tons) of surplus I bought 4 years ago. There were a dozen or more BC-348s and this was the only one without modifications. It is complete with dynamotor. I have it on the air paired up with a Bendix TA-12 transmitter. Didn’t do anything but check it on an AC supply to make sure it was OK and then put 24 volts to it and it works great.

Years ago, at the Huntsville Hamfest, I bought three BC-348's for, IIRC,
$60. They were in okay shape, not great, but certainly not packed with
mud and not looking like they came from a crash site!
I was able to put together two good units out of the three of them with
some help in parts from the awesome folks in and around the BA
community. The third one has donated parts to fix other BC-348's around
the country, so while it was very hacked internally, it still lives on.
Interestingly, for that unit, the front panel was in pretty nice shape.
One of my first BA's was a 348R, complete with tag saying Belmont Radio
Corporation, not the usual commonly-seen generic tag. It worked fine
and in a fit of downsizing, I sold it. :(
If I ever see another one with the "fancy" 348R tag saying Belmont for
not insane $'s, I'm going to buy it. :) Unfortunately, e-pay prices on
348's are really more towards insane right now...plus I've not seen one
with a tag like the one I had...
thanks much and 73,
ben, kd5byb
