At the Shelby Hamfest in 2011 or 2012 (forget which) I bought a BC-348-Q with the dynamotor for $65. The front panel and cabinet looked almost like it had been exhumed from some WW2 crash site, with lots of chipped and peeling paint and corrosion; but the inside looked pristine. I don't know where it had been stored; but when I gave it a good once-over after getting it home, I could find no evidence of mods. The front panel had a rework sticker from a company near Dayton, OH with a contract date in the early fifties. When I powered it up on 28 volts DC, the radio worked like a champ. I gave it a good alignment, and even the crystal filter functioned great. These years later, the receiver still plays fine and that alignment was all I ever had to do to it. (knock on wood) I even left the panel and cabinet alone; it goes a long way in amazing visitors.

About 20 years ago I was told by someone whowas a noted WWII aircraft parts wheeler-dealer that somewhere in Florida there was a treasure trove of BC-348 parts. A man workedrebuilding them and the parts he did not need he threw out the back of hisbarn. There was a mountain of them. Problem was, behind his barn was a swamp and it washeavily infested with water moccasins. He said it took about two rounds ofammo to kill snakes for every BC-348 he harvested. I tried to get himto tell me where this "Raiders of the Lost Ark" site was but he never did. I'd only risk going there on a very cold day, anyway.
