Mark was that with a 36 foot whip antenna for receiving?
I used to log QUITE a few with my SONY ICF-2010 back in the
mid-late 1980s in Maryland. I even took it to Hawaii with me
and do some hill top listening. It was nothing great out there!
No LAND for many MILES in any direction.
I did a trick on the receive that improved the copiability
of MANY beacons. An old magazine article suggested having
an end fed wire of 50 or more feet, and feed it to a coil would
on an old oatmeal box. Worked great for me! I will have
to see if it works on my TECSUN PL-880 and see how
it tunes down there.
Is anyone else using a PL-880 for some of their shortwave
adventures?

Subject: Re: [ARC5] BC-453 On The Air
This weekend was the ndblist's listening event -- the theme was using a old radio preferably with barn door selectivity, which is why I decided to light up my BC-453.
I figured I'd hear 6 or 10 NDBs, and was delighted to put 69 in the log over the weekend!
Just my 453 hooked up to my 160M INV-L; no matching etc. I had a GREAT time. The 453, stock and pretty much not recapped (yet), is no slouch for an LF receiver.

The dynamotor noise that plagues my BC-454 and BC-455, with the same dynamotor was not present on the 453 which tells me I have a ground issue.
A boy and his radio had a great time over this weekend!
