Thinking again about C batteries, I recalled that I had seen C- up to 13.5 volts. The bias batt in my Forest Service SPF radios is -4.5 volts, and I have a Royal 2-tube
ham receiver wanting -13.5 volts C. I have somewhere around here an odd battery, 7.5 volts with a 6 volt connector too. So you could select 6 or 7.5 volt.
Now re batteries prone to leakage, I would suggest one be careful with dollar store batteries, the Sunbeam and Panasonic brands sold there. They seem to like to
do that when you have forgotten them.
Some of the Duracell batteries in 1.5 volts had a self test strip on the side. Some Duracell 9 volt packages had the tester on the package. I have removed some of those
strips, carefully excising them from the 1.5 AA cells, to play with them as "battery testers". You know, the narrow strip that lights up from red to green.
As for guarantees, how about the Krusty Brand battery disclaimer: "If these batteries leak, don't blame us." Years back I printed out from the internet some Krusty Brand
battery labels and actually glued them over the casing of some AA batts kept in our company's supply area. You know what? Nobody even noticed. It's like driving
every day past some billboard sign, and you can't even recall what it says.
