Bob & Doran - there is a dry battery you may like. Highest rated ones I could find at sensible prices (amazon maybe?)
You can find full specs on line, I believe.
I hope this helps. This is what I use now:
ALLMAX
"ALL-POWERFUL ALKALINE"
"Best Before 06-2029"
All types, AA, AAA, 9V, etc.
So almost 10 year shelf life and they do have a leakage rating.
I hope that helps !

Subject: Re: [ARC5] Battery Report
Personally I have given up on hoping for any kind of 'non-leaking' dry cell battery - just not convinced that there is any brand that is safe for long periods of time. And the damage done when they do leak is (or can be) rather nasty. So I just leave the batteries out of the device until I want to use it and then I put fresh ones in. A bit (ha!) of a PITA but certainly safer than any other approach.

Just replaced battery set from Costco dated 2025. 2 of 4 were leaking. The only batts that have not leaked, so far, are the Panasonic Eneloop (sp) cells.

Its worth trying Duracell and Cosco Kirkland cells. These had
a very serious leakage problem but were taken off the market and
are not guaranteed for a ten year shelf life. I have many in use
and so far they do not seem to leak. There is also a deluxe
version sold as ProStart. I have a few but have not tested them
thoroughly.
Cell capacity seems to be related to weight; the heavier the
greater the capacity. Also, there is a trick for testing
cylindrical cells; drop them on the negative end on a hard
surface and see if they bounce. Good cells do not bounce.

A while back I asked for advice on what brands of alkaline
batteries are not prone to leak.
I decided to try Radio Shack batteries and can report that
while I have run some down through use I have yet to see one
leak. The RS website sells their AA or AAA batteries, 36 for
$14.00 If your order is $19 or more the shipping is free.
