Was reading 'Flight Journal' magazine for Nov. - Dec. 2020, article "Bomber Crew
Chronicles".

"They pulled the curtain back and told us where we were going...Everybody in the
room would just groan and sigh or mutter, '...damn...' After the main briefing, the
navigators and bombardiers were given instructions about route and target...
A bombardier of the 493rd Group, Lynn Tipton, said, "We were told what bomb load
we'd have, the aiming point, and target information.
"I got a sealed bag with my frequencies and information for the day....It had an escape
kit in there with a map and stuff. It had about fifty dollars in gold too, to bribe civilians."

Now questions.
1- has anyone seen such a bag? Was it sealed with safety wire, or what was it like?
2- I assume "frequencies" means HF frequencies, as i'm sure it would be too much
work to change the VHF crystals and soforth for each mission?
3- So I guess during the return flight, the radio op would use BC-221 to tune the BC-375
for possible use, like to report bombing mission success, or distress signal?
4- considering the inaccuracy arising from different BC-221 examples and also
individual slop between one BC-221 and its drifty BC-375, I would guess the base
station ops had to continually tune around the assigned HF frequency slightly, so as
not to miss an off-freq signal ?
tnx,
Hue Miller
