That's not bad, I probably would have glued it upside down ;-)

I'll report back with the results of my dial overlay experiment.

Regarding the homebrew receiver that uses ARC-5 85 kHz IF transformers, 
I recorded a 20 second video that gives a sense for the selectivity with 
an AM signal.  You can watch it online here:

I'd guess the bandwidth is 4-5 kHz which I think is about optimal for 
AM, enough for decent fidelity but narrow enough to avoid interference 
from 5-6 kHz away.    This receiver is better than many boatanchors 
which run in the 6-8 kHz range with wider slopes.
