I never really thought about this before, but I just now understood, I think, that for the FM band, the osc. is on the high side, otherwise at some freqs
the osc would appear right in the middle of the band. So with a scanner, maybe it is possible to pick up the osc. in the range approx 121 - 142 MHz. 
I'll have to look at my scanners and see if they pick up those frequencies.
