Yes..."...for maximum life....". That doesn't have anything at all to do with what voltage range 
over which the tube will work.

Again, true. And "12 volt" tubes will operate just fine at voltages between less than 6 and 16 
V.

When ARC engineers first offered one of their 24 V receivers to the military, the military 
operated that receiver in an airplane with a 12 V system, and the receiver worked just fine.

So impressed the military that they bought the ARC gear.
