I have found no radium-based paint on any of the AN/ARC-5 equipment with
my AN/PRD-27F instrument. Some of the engravings, however, are
_photoluminescent_, and will glow under a UV light. There are other
spots on AN/ARC-5 equipment that have that same paint applied, such as
the center dot on the remote control cranks, a "bar" line on the little
switches, the radiused arrows on the volume controls, etc. For some
reason, none of the SCR-274 equipment has similar capabilities.
The only _aircraft_ instruments I have found with radiolumenescent
markings have been meters, like the "Tune to Max" meter for the
navigation receivers, and panel meters for temperature and the like.
Marine Corps sets seem to have taken the radiolumenescent approach far
more than aircraft...perhaps because they did not have UV lights in
their environment that was pervasive in aircraft.
