Weren't BC348s made by more than one manufacturer that may have sourced parts from more than one maker? If so, I guess I wouldn't personally say the .01s in BC348 are all paper. I don't know it for sure one way or the other, so I check them individually.

I don't remember large micas in the BC348 radio, but I may be wrong...
Yes there .005 uf micas and larger in the world , and I did say "generally".Yes, when in doubt, check the parts list for details. Can we agree that the .01 uf caps in the BC348 are paper?

I check them all. Then again, I try to check everything on 70-yr old sets before thinking of applying power. There's an informed opinion that everything above particular values is paper & bad, and anything below is mica & okay. But I've noted that in original parts lists for RBM sets I have, small picofarad caps are specified as PAPER! And some of the caps in larger values (~.005uF) are real micas.

I’m contemplating the next project to take on and I’m leaning towards restoring my BC-348. I bought it many years ago at a swap meet for $80 and set it on the shelf. It eventually migrated to the back of the shelf and out of sight. Other than some scraps and scratches on the cabinet, it looks new and unmodified. No modifications inside or out.
It also has the dynamotor installed. I can’t imagine the dynamotor turns so I won’t bother firing it up before tearing it apart and relubricating it. I have the matching shock mount with the Jones power plug too, acquired separately.
I’ll set it on the bench today and take another look inside. I did a GOOGLE search and came up with at least 3 excellent restoration sites so that will be a big help. I see the usual differences in restoration techniques where some just shotgun replace the mica caps, while others check the caps and only replace what’s bad. I would prefer to do the check and only replace if necessary.
Boy those 348’s are gorgeous. Does anyone here actually use theirs on the ham bands?
