If you do keep your contest log via computer, when you type in the call of the other station, it will tell you if the contact will be a "dupe". That function is the main reason that I do use a computer for contest logging. For decades, I kept "dupe" sheets, etc., but those were a real pain in the posterior to keep and also not "fool proof"!

When you use an ARC-5, or like me a BC-654, dupe equipment really isn’t available.
