I am forwarding my post to armyradios to the arc5 list to get more coverage. I hope no one is offended. It seems that any radio related history is welcome here.
The A-10 thread really has not revealed what radios were actually on board an A-10. But the story began way back with Radio Frequency Labs and Aircraft Radio Corporation. (Just to put the thread back on track... ;-)

Subject: GSS-1 info request
Greetings Group,
I hope everyone enjoyed having the 4th of July in the middle of the week. I made it into a 5 day retreat from work. Surprisingly, I heard no fire works here in Ben Lomond. Maybe people are finally realizing the fire danger here after what happened in Santa Rosa.
Any way, my inquiry is about the GSS-1 system , that, according to Wikipedia, was an anti-aircraft radar/comm system used in the Niki Hercules AA defense network back in the early '50's. What sparked my interest was the acquisition of a C-1436/GSS-1 CONTROL, INTERPHONE box on contract or order number 11656-PH-52, Raytheon Manufacturing Co. It has two connectors, J-1, a standard audio I/O ,typical of the '50's green radios, and J-2007 (how many connectors did the system have?), an Amphenal looking female 2-3-4-3-2 with shell key at 180 deg from top. It has a GAIN control. And, here is what struck me, a four position switch labeled, left to right, TEL#!, TEL#2, GRC-9, GRR-5/INT.
I have a 99% complete GRC-9 (and you never know when whatever may or may not be missing is when you find it or never find it) and as far as I can tell, a complete AN/GRR-5. It would be very cool to acquire the interphone amp and what ever it takes to mate up the GRR-5, GRC-9, and a single field phone EE-8 and a BD-71 and a few more EE-8's.
According to Wiki, this equipment was housed in a truck mounted shelter or a towed shelter, I cannot tell from the brief write up.
There has to be a TM-something that has more detailed information.
Thanks,
Jay KE6PPF
