[ARC5] A-10 Radios

They are going to shut down over 300 VORs and retain enough for a minimum capability in case of a GPS outage.

They have been decommissioning Non Directional Beacon approaches for over a decade and many NDBs have either been shut down or turned over to local maintenance.

They will not. ILS and VOR are here to stay.

I sure hope they don’t obsolete VORs. I think it is unwise to fully rely on any single system (GPS) for navigation.

Could be that they have other uses planned for the spectrum. In the US 108 to 118 MHZ is reserved for VOR. GPS is supposed to replace all of the VORs, and presumably at least some of those frequencies will become available for communications.

I don’t understand the need for the 8.33 kHz spacing, since the spectrum is not very crowded. Why such need? Anybody knows?
