[ARC5] Surplus Radio Conversion Manuals

Back then, seeing at the end of a Shelby hamfest a 55-gal trash barrel full of thrown away "ARC-5" & other mil stuff said volumes about how rare and important they were then. The conversion manuals for me are like reading really old Handbooks or QSTs: a window to see how things were done then, so that I can mourn for what has passed and be thankful for what we have now.

And therein lies the salient point. At the time, it was plentiful and the mind-set present today had not remotely arrived. I admit guilt of installing an S- meter on a '348 receiver. I can only say that thank heaven there was enough of it that we can still find good examples still. But, to the books, they are references to un-do the handiwork of yore and as make-do manuals at times.

This MIL equipment was hardly an artifact in 1948 and well into early 60s, when people were converting them.

Just my .02 worth.
