No. You're not. I heartily agree with both you and David. None of those are real 
communications methods.

I plan to use CW.

There is at least one experimental licensee who is using some sort of 1929-design 
transmitter, and Heising modulated AM, on 600 meters, so we aren't alone.

What I meant when I said I had my "ARC-5s" connected to a computer was that I was using 
spectrum analysis software, only, like Spectran, and other similar stuff. 

I can see what the band is doing as far as RFI and other intereference is concerned. In 
addition, I can often "see" a signal I can't make out by ear due, mainly, to the noise.

It works very much like a really good panoramic adapter.

I highly recommend it.

I also find it a lot of fun to combine a 70+ year old receiver with "modern" technology. It 
tickles my sense of history for one thing, and for another shuts down the smartalec young 
whippersnappers who despise "old tech" simply because they are ignorant of its 
capabilities.
