[ARC5] Phillips Screw

Hi Wayne:

Does the article on the Phillips Screw mention that they were designed for power screwdrivers with no torque limiting to
"cam out" the bit and so limit the torque? The problem is that when one gets stuck it's extremely difficult to get it
out. (Kroil penetrating is magical for this type of thing.) If you have a torque limiting hex driver then anything but
a Phillips head is better. Pozidrive, Torx and Star heads for example.

Regarding the history of vibrator power supplies I found patent:
2121421 "Vibrator Power Supply system, RCA, filed: Jun 16, 1936, class: 363/110. This uses the vibrator only on the
primary of the transformer.
The oldest patent in the same class (3363/110) is for a "Pole Changer" used to change DC battery voltage into AC
voltage, but not to feed a transformer.
26577 Magneto Electric Machine, G.W. Beardslee, Dec 27, 1859.

Related trivia: Note that automotive ignition systems switched from the Atwater Kent system used in the early 1900s to
the Kittering (Delco) system around 1915.
