Guilty as charged! I messed a bit with a few receivers in the late 50's but until I got involved with the likes of you guys, MRCA, and the OMRN gang, I really did not appreciate that there was a noteworthy difference. Yes, I knew the difference in the modulators, but that's all. I do agree that ARC-5 was a generic term just like "frigidaire" and "victrola"..... heh heh...Jeep K3HVG

No doubt the gentleman was using "ARC-5" in the
colloquial sense, meaning he was actually inspecting
274N, but as was common post-war, all similar
sets came to be called "ARC-5."
