Exactly. Others may not like it but one is free to do whatever they want to gear they own. 

I've gotten desensitized to the fate of equipment by so many gleefully destroying gear they can't get what they think they can for it that if someone wants to "Hamify" some obscure piece of gear I say, enjoy, it's yours to do with as you please.
