Using a 12V 14A dynamotor here that's rated 500 VDC @ 200 mA. It actually
produces 550V
to supply my AN/ARC-5 transmitter that draws 100 mA for the two 1625s and
about 80 mA peak
for a pair of 2E26s in push-pull AB1 for the modulators.
Have a 12V 24 A/hr gel cell battery for oomph to start the dynamotor -it
will actually start and
run it by itself, but doesn't last long. Using a commercial 0-16 VDC, 25A
power supply sitting
across the battery. Between transmitting sessions, it's used to
occasionally charge up the
battery to 14.4 V, but the combo is throttled back to 12.5 V during
sessions.
A tip:
Note that I said that the power supply sits across the battery. Connect the
battery direct to the
dynamotor (via relay contacts of course). Then connect the power supply to
the battery. Do not
reverse the order. This places the starting current demand more directly
onto the battery, rather
than the power supply.
