The insulation sheets are styrofoam and that is what I typically use.  Much cheaper than most other packing materials and, generally, do a better job!

Glen, I have used the 4X8 sheets of insulation to ship R-390s, Harris radios, etc.  heavy stuff.  It is easy to cut and basically make an inner box out of.  About 3/4” in thickness and does absorb shock well.  I do then double box, so in effect triple box these radios.  Never a complaint yet.  The sheets are cheaper than styrofoam and can be reused at the other end of the journey.  One guy wrote that he used the insulation for his Dog house, even the Dog made out.  I get the stuff at Home Depot, much cheaper and better than other packing material.
