[ARC5] LORAN C set Re: Old and new...

Hi Jay,

I don't think any LORAN-C stations still operate outside of Asia. Some of
the LORAN-C set might be retuned up to 137 KHz (the new 2200 meter band) as
a receiver front end, as LORAN operated around 100 KHz. But LORAN ran very
high power so the outfit might not be that sensitive.

...or you could maybe tune it down to 60 KHz for WWVB time.

Other than that, it's sort of radio-archeology:  just dig into it to find
out about it.  But maybe others know better than I, which is usually the
case.

The new eLORAN is, I think, a digital mode for PNT in difficult (non-GPS)
environments. An old LORAN-C set for eLORAN would be like a 1970s
black&white TV trying to display a digital TV signal.  (Maybe eLORAN is
backward-compatible with LORAN-C but I've never seen any suggestion of
that).
