Yes. Mike Murphy's article in Nov 2007 ER Mag on these makes that point.

Well, the one I had to use works very well indeed. I used one of those Radio Shack jobs in a
wrecked BC-453 and it sounds very good.
I might add that the line transformer needs a 0.625 Watt tap (which is a common tap, BTW)
for 8K. The 0.5 watt tap gives around 10K and the 1 watt tap gives about 5 K. The 10K tap
should work OK, but the 5K tap won't work very well with a 12A6.
The taps are all listed in watts, but since the transformer is a 70.7 V job, R = E^2/P
