I ran up the modified dynamotor today and found that it puts out 156VDC at 12VDC input. With a 20,000 ohm load the output voltage drops about 4 volts. The AC component of the output is measured at 4V on a DVOM.
I ran an original unmodified example of the same type dynamotor, designed for 21VDC input with 260 VDC output. Running at 12 VDC input it put out about 156 VDC, but the AC component was 45V. Then the output started dropping and the motor started slowing, getting down to about 100VDC. I removed the bypass caps and noted no effects but then ran the dynamotor up to 21VDC input and it ran fine, putting out 260VDC. I backed off to 12VDC input and it ran at 160 VDC output and did not drop off. Under a 20,000 ohm load the output also dropped about 4 volts.
The modified dynamotor pulls about twice the current of the unmodified one at 12 VDC input.
So I don't know if the series to parallel mod did anything useful but I am going to try it out.
