I would suggest the simple antenna series by the RSGB and available thru the ARRL.

IMO Maxwells books have several holes in them as exposed by other engineers and professors with a better grip on the subject.

R III was rushed into print as Walt was dying and he wanted the last word in his years long battle in QST and QEX with Warren Bruene of Collins who was a well know leader in directional bridges and transmission lines. In his later years he was getting pathetic and totally obsessed, he passed at 93.

Subject: [ARC5] Buying the book Reflections by Walter Maxwell

After reading the thread "Antennas for a Small Yard", I started looking for the book. It's been out of print for years. Searching for Reflections in eBay and Amazon or is pretty much a lost cause, as there are literally hundreds of books with the word Reflections in the title, and they could not resist listing them, no matter how I searched. The CQ bookstore indicated the latest edition was Reflections III, a much better search topic. I found some in Amazon and/or eBay, priced between a hundred (+) and a thousand dollars. I'll let those speculators keep their books.

To make a long story short, I found two good sources
A PDF of seven of the original magazine articles (I'm guessing that is all of them). Unfortunately, I didn't keep the web site, but can send the file to anyone interested. Contact me directly, as I don't download the ARC5 reflector every day.

It is currently available in book form from Universal Radio, see http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/books/2438.html for $34.95 plus shipping.

eHam and others have mostly good reviews. I thought I knew all about reflections, but after a quick read of some of the articles, I discovered I was wrong.
Thanks to Jim Wiley for the tip.
