The T-28A was the first model, with the R-1300 800 HP engine, which was more or less an R-2600 with only the front row of cylinders. The USN wanted more power so they got the T-28B with the R-1300 replaced with a R-1820 1350 hp engine. The T-28C was the B model with a carrier arrestor hook added. The A, and then B and C models were modified into T-28D light ground attack aircraft, with the R-1820 engine and additional weapons stores points under the wings. The A, and presumably the B and C models had limited armament capability for training purposes, with two .50 cal guns or two bombs or three rockets under each wing. The T-28D expanded that a great deal.

I have never seen a radio list for the T-28D but it probably would have added FM capability for communications with ground troops, probably using an ARC-44 or something like that.

A friend of mine flew T-28D's in Thailand and Laos.
