Well said. However, let me describe what I do, which is a little
different but also seeks to honor the original design.

I try to fix the annoyances that keep me from enjoying use of the radio,
so i can enjoy what's wonderful about it. I think by doing this I honor
the original design.

I arrived at this approach while restoring my 1950s and '60s British
motorcycles. I modified the electrical systems to avoid the problems
that were endemic to them. If I did this, I could ride without fear of
not getting home due to some aspect of the Prince of Darkness (Joseph
Lucas and Sons), who made all the electrical systems on British cars and
bikes. Thus, I could enjoy the rest of the design, which was in fact
very nice and fun to ride.

In my mind, this honors the design engineering and craftsmanship of the
original.

Regards,

Scott
