I do not know the voltage rating required for the 3uf butI am sure if you get stuck you can find a suitable 2.7 or 3.3 ceramic surface mount capacitor that will fit. Mount it on a small piece of clad scored with a knife to make two pads. Tell me the voltage rating you need for the cap and I will make you one If I have a suitable cap at work. I know we have 10uF and I think 2.2uf.

I think c30 is the 3 uf on the AGC line? I used an electrolytic there. What is the C5 value? Almost all can be replaced with mylar. In fact, you can get 3.3uf in mylat non polar, but will it fit in the can? Yes, replace the caps with the same value.
If you are good with soldering, you can make the seam very inconspicuous, looking like it was part of the manufacturing process. The "pots" are brass and solder very easily.

Thanks for the prompt answers!
just to be sure...
are the higher value capacitors (C5 or C30, for example) electrolytic capacitors, or paper ones?
I see that the value indicated on the "tin pot" is sometimes different from the value I see in the schematics I have.
I'll guess that it's better to follow the value on the "tin pot". Am I correct?
Thanks again...

I will try to save the "tin pots" and I'll place the new caps inside them, si the look of the receiver will not be spoiled too much...

Replace the capacitors! It can make a BIG difference in the performance as well as protecting from damage caused by leaky / shorted capacitors.

Hi all,
I'm a newcomer here. I just acquired a complete (less dynamotor) and
good-looking BC-455-B and I would like to restore it to good working
conditions. I'm planning to use it in order to listen to the few
remaining broadcasting stations, while enjoying the sound of a truly
vintage radio.
I have seen several posts in the web suggesting to replace the
capacitors, especially the electrolytic ones, with modern ones. That
will cause big detriment to the authenticity, but probably will be
beneficial to the functionality.
What is your wise advice?
thanks!
