speaking of oddities.. I have a BC-454-B Royal Canadian Air Force
''reconditioned by Canadian Aviation Electronics Ltd''..it is pretty rough
and has 2 circuit boards (like the ones in the BC-348s) replacing the
bathtubs, one on each side secured by stand off pillars screwed to the
case..the caps are ''tiny chief'' like the ones in the HRO-50/60..they have
now been yanked out so now I have a ''reconditioned reconditioned'' BC-454-B
..is this a first?..73 de Pat/EI7CN

Don't forget the BFO coil too.
I've got a BC-453B that was "Range Mod 25-Nov-53"
It's modified to be a BC-946B. Coils,and dial replaced.

Terry N3GTE

Oh, yes, of course, the BFO coil! And the dial, too as Ken points out, and I
have spare one of those, anyway.

And really? They modded a BC-453? Or did you do that?

Yes. I had forgotten to mention that.

BTW, for those who may need the info, Fair Radio Sales has (or at least
"had" very recently) the BFO coils and the RF coils for the BC band sets,
all
NIB.

That is VERY interesting, Terry. I have never heard of such a thing.

FWIW, Fair Radio still has a few BFO transformers for the BCSt band
sets. I just did the mod to an R-11 and an R-23 to R-24. No component
changes, just re-align the trimmers.

Yes, but since the tuning capacitor is identical to those in the BC-453,
except
that the dial-mechanism is missing, substituting their original tuning
capacitor
with one from a junk BC-453 then adding a dial results in a more "modern"
BC band ARC-5 receiver. ;-)

Looks like that one was in service for quite a while.
