The three converters that I was vaguely remembering are the CUO-46212
(47-215 MC), CUO-46213 (200-545 MC) and CUO-46214 (535-704 MC.I had to track down
the manual for the details. The MF receiver specified or or specifically
mentioned in the manual is the 46145 equipped with the 62036 adapter. The
trio (which from the front look vaguely like three Command receivers cut off
at about the center IF transformer) are mounted in a shock mount rack that
looks nothing like a triple receiver rack. They are normally operated from a
dry battery box but any one at a time can be run off of the 46145. Each has
a 140 ohm dropping resistor for when they are powered from the receiver.
Nominal center output frequency is 1000 to 1200 KC (for plus or minus QRM
from BCB stations). The converter outputs are all tied together at the
receiver antenna post.
AN/ARC-5 is not mentioned, but the Contract date is June 5, 1943.
There may have been an earlier version, too, as on page 16 (only) they are
referred to as CUO-46205, 46206 and 46207.
The converters all use a single 955 oscillator-mixer. Strange circuit The
antenna connector goes to the heater positive terminal in the 46212 and
46213. And to the heater and the cathode in the 46213.
They were made by General Electronic Industries, Div. of Auto-Ordnance
Corp. in Greenwich, CN. Several sources show CUO as McGuire Industries.
I have never seen any of the units, either in person or in catalogs. Nor
have I ever heard of anyone mentioning them.
