Pots of the 1950s were larger than those we have been accustomed to in
the last 30 years. The little box was too small for headphone jack,
1950s size pot, and BFO switch, no?

My ARA receiver had a mod that looks like it was done in the 1950s -
old power transformer, wiring, old capacitors. The RF/IF gain pot is
about 28mm (one and one-eighth inch) in diameter. Compare that to pots
of today.
