You'd be really puzzled by the MX-19/ARC-5 then. :-)

Robert mentioned the principal *intended* use with the homing adapters, which is why broadcast band receivers were *always* supplied with the power adaptor panel. WRT the R-24/ARC-5 and its MX-20/ARC-5, it is very doubtful that any were ever used in service. The AN/ARR-2 homing receiver made the R-24 one of the most useless items made in WWII. It is likely that the only BCB receiver that saw actual war service was the ARA CBY-46145, with the ZB-2 or -3 homing adapter.
So...the common MX-20/ARC-5 installed in a stabilized R-25, R-26, or R-27/ARC-5 communication receiver would power the technician's calibration unit used to adjust the receiver for preset locked-tuned service. The calibration signal would come from an LM-* meter or even an O-4/ARC-5.
