This will upset a few, but I've been doing it for
30 years and it's worked without any problems.

When I'm testing parts in a radio, if possible I will
nip one lead in the middle, isolating it for testing.
If the part is good, I clean and tin the ends and tack
them back together. If possible, I leave the original
part with one end disconnected just so someone
can see what was originally used.
If it's in a MO or something where a loose part
might cause freq wobble or other trouble,
I tack it down with a dot of glue.
Remember these sets are no longer subject to
vibration from 4 Wright Cyclone engines
or multi-G turns. In 30 years, I have never
had one I did correctly come apart.
Radios in which I did this 25 years ago still play
just fine after multiple moves.

And I never, ever attempt to unsolder anything from
a terminal on a fiber or phenolic band switch.
Learned by bitter experience. You WILL eventually
break one of the switches and God help you.
I nip the part out and solder to the leads.
Those phenolic terminal strips
are getting old as well.
Had trouble with some of them while unsoldering.
