[ARC5] roller inductors

That's what I was about to suggest. Any wipe-off cleaning substance must do some corrosion of its own. If it is a substance you wipe on and have to polish off, perhaps not, since then you are using toothpaste/lapping compound type abrasives to polish away the tarnish and surface imperfections.

In any case LPS-1 will not remove the tarnish but will lubricate and protect the surface.

An intelligent young lady by the name of Bobbi Barmore on the old Boatanchors reflector did some extensive tests on silver polish for roller inductors because she was chief engineer of a broadcast station. Under microscopic analysis, the "quick" solutions like the wipes and Tarn-X etched thousands of microscopic holes into the silver layer, and guess what? It then enhanced the action of atmospheric sulfides on the surface of the wires because of significantly increased area exposed to the air. Switching to a cream based polish solved the problem. You might get quick results with the quick methods, but you have set the stage for eventual failure. I've never had that problem with Hagerty's or the other high quality silver polishes, and I have checked with a microscope more than once since then.

  Jus' sayin...

Try lubing them with LPS-1. It works great for scratchy volume controls.
