[ARC5] roller inductors

Be careful of silver polish, it will remove some of the silver along
with the oxidation. The black stuff may be either silver oxide, which
is a poor conductor, or silver sufide which is nearly as good a
conductor as metallic silver.
Carbon Tetrachloride was a standard degreaser until it was
discovered how toxic it was. Its main advantage was being
non-inflamible. Naphtha works as well but one must have some care, it
is essentially very purified gasoline. Also sold as Ronsonol lighter
fluid but cheaper in the paint store. Its a good degreaser and does not
leave a residue behind. DeOxit is probably fine. Ive used it on the
roller inductor in my MFJ Versatuner with good results. I do not
lubricate inductor, lubricant is seldom a good conductor.
Most silver cleaners, rust removers, stain removers, use one or
another of the "reducing" agents such as oxalic acid, phosphoric acid, a
couple of others. They may take too much metal off. I've used TarnX
with fairly good results on edge connectors. Don't let it stay very long
and rinse it off thoroughly with warm water. Works best on silver and
copper. I've had TarnX take the Nickel plating right off J-36 keys,
there isn't much plating there and the silver plating on the rollers may
be similar, so one must be careful of any of these products.
