Amphenol manufactured snap-ring type octal (and other) white ceramic sockets, but I can't be sure if these were wartime production or came later.
One could always snap a metal cover over any ring-mount socket.  Amphenol made these as well, some with cable strain relief clamps and others with only a grommet-lined opening (such as used with eye tube sockets).

"Can you tell what kind of phenolic?  The mica filled kind is usually yellow or light tan in color."  Answer:  They all look to be dark brown. Today I was working to make a octal socket breakout box and was using an old octal plug designed to be mounted with snap ring - or with a back cover for use at the end of a cable,as in this case It then occurred to me that a ceramic plug or socket probably would work less well when used at the end of a cable.  I doubt the snap ring approach would work with one.  I think all of the ceramic sockets I have seen have been the types with a bolt in mounting ring rather than the snap ring approach.
