[ARC5] AC Power Supplies

Fair Radio and others sold such supplies in the fifties and sixties, of their own design and manufacture. I don’t believe there was a requirement for such a supply in the military, although there are some very nicely crafted units that would pass for commercial or military at first glance.

There were third party modules sold alongside surplus Command receivers that fit in place of the dynamotor. I have one that has a transformer, selenium rectifier, and filter cap inside. HOWEVER, the transformer was only supplying filaments. The selenium was fed directly off the AC line. If you locate one of these power supplies, check it out first!

Aircraft Radio Corp. made a number of AC power supplies that fit in place of the dynamotor, but I think they were for lab or other work at the Boonton plant, which is where I saw them, back in the day. They also made transistorized power supplies that replaced the dynamotor and I think were sold with the civil aviation sets or at least the later military stuff.
