They deliver well over 1KW of power. Their main trouble is that one side of the secondary is 
connected directly to the core. There are several articles on the web describing ways to 
safely use them in a homemade amplifier, though.

In addition, there is usually a magnetic shunt installed in the core, and this must be 
removed, but it is a quite simple process. One drives it out with a screwdriver or a punch 
and a hammer.

Microwave ovens also include an excellent HV rectifier, but usually only 1/2 wave, so you 
have to use two of them.
