An interesting thing is that in the earlier manual, TM11-866, the stage is called a "mixer" and in the later manual, TM11-4054, the stage is called a "1st detector".

For the third time tonight, the BC-779 and other SP-200 Series receivers used a 6L7 1st mixer, not a 6SA7 and  and not a 6K8.  The HF Osc was a separate 6J7.
