Yes. 

The P-36 was the Curtis "Hawk", a radial engined pursuit. 

The A-36 "Apache" was the Allision engined dive-bomber version of the P-51.

Completely different airplanes.

The P-36 "Hawk" eventually "morphed" into the P-40.
