Completely different. The P-36 was a member of the Curtiss Hawk family.
Think of it as
a P-40 with a radial engine. Although it actually happened the other
way. The P-40 series
started out as a P-36 with an Allison V-1710 replacing the radial. The
whole story is probably
complicated than that.
