I should have also added that during the tenure of the F-86, there was 
no requirement nor equipment for 720 VHF channels.  The best, at the 
time, was 360 channels with 50 kHz channel spacing.  The Collins ARC-73 
(Collins VHF-101) was the most popular air carrier comm system, up to 
the 1970's.  In the DC area, one could "play" with only 90 channels 
below FL180, up to probably the 1970's.  After that, ATC would get 
annoyed or deny service, if you didn't have all 360 channels, then 720.  
Now? Heh.... no 720, no fly.  Just wait for ADS-B in/out in 2020!!!
