Boy! Me too!!!!! I have managed to gather together a few of those, but wish I
had more.

Yes. I did things in my youth which I would like to recreate mainly to see just
how much I DIDN'T know at the time, and what the true results were, vs what
I thought at the time.

For instance, I modified two BC-610s for use as linear amps, replacing the
250TH with first one, then two 304TLs, installing a shunt regulator circuit
taken from a Wilcox 96A, running the 304TLs in Class B, and achieving a
measured output of 2600 watts...for a few seconds at a time, anyway. The
plates on the 304TL would turn white-hot, so we didn't hold the key down
very long when testing and/or loading up. Didn't seem to hurt the tubes,
though.

I and Bob Preston W7DPG used them for AFMARS phone-patching into
SEA.

I would like to find out just how bad the IMD, distortion and possible splatter
there was. No one complained, but we were pretty far away from any ham
band.

These days, I understand that IMD with a 304TL can't be much better than
about -30 dB at best. Wouldn't be acceptable on today's ham bands.
