[ARC5] UPS Transformers

I miss the availability of the nice TV transformers I used to use for
HV transformers for my projects. With a voltage doubler got 1100 to 1200 volts B+
Used one to power my 4x 6AG7 grounded grid amplifier. I want to reconstruct it some
day just for the fun of it.

Heh,

Rich I just posted about that. Maybe some of us spec our parts as close
to the bone as we can. I believe most of us build with conservative
specs. The transformers I used in the ARC-5 power supply (so I don't
'appreciate" the dynamotor *noise*) are back to back 24 volt units that
are rated for four times the power required by the entire radio -
heaters and plates all in. They are silent and run cool.

The plate supply I built to power a single 6146B 'boot' for my QRP radio
turned out capable of melting a 6146 when the grid bias connection
failed. The power supply didn't moan or sigh or grunt or groan. When the
6146 rolled over the current stopped. I added a fuse and continued
business as usual..with a replacement tube and bias resistor.

I still have that transformer. Maybe I should get a bigger tube and
build a voltage doubler with that iron. My garage shack will be used for
the old tube gear while the cute stuff lives in my new "civilized"
library shack in polite society. The tubes could provide half the heat
to warm my garage shack <evil grin>.
