[ARC5] UPS Transformers

Mains voltage in New Zealand is 230 VAC, 50 Hz. I'm making use of a
standard 230-230 V, 1kVA isolating transformer to power my BC-AO-230
transmitter.

I full-wave rectify the transformer's 230 V output, producing 325 VDC,
which is just what's needed for the transmitter. The transformer totally
isolates the wall socket supply and easily has enough reserve, its 1kVA
rating being about 20 times the transmitter's B+ requirements.

For my ARC-5 transmitter, I might obtain another similar transformer
and connect the plugs so that the two secondaries are in series to give
460 VAC. Full-wave rectification should result in about 650 VDC.
The great things about these transformers are ruggedness, supreme
isolation, and far greater power rating than what the load demands.

Hope I've given someone an idea.
