Terry:

If you look carefully at the schematics in the Navy's ARC-5 manual, you will 
see that although there may be a difference between the 1st and 2nd IF 
transformers, there really isn't enough to make any real difference for our 
uses. As I remember it, the difference is in that one uses a center-tap on the 
IF transformer, while the other doesn't. I believe the connections are there, 
so moving a connection to the correct tap is trivial.

The 3rd IF is, however, different due to the diode load.
